Shara D. Saget
Shara Saget is an experienced criminal appellate lawyer who is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey and Texas. As a native Texan, she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas in Arlington and went on to graduate from Rutgers University School of Law.
Following law school, Ms. Saget completed a judicial clerkship in New Jersey and gained an array of criminal law experience as she assisted with trial preparation, pending motions, post-conviction relief and municipal appeals.In this position, Ms. Saget conducted extensive research on New Jersey’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and authored extensive memorandums on wiretapping and the applicable Rules of Evidence. She has also served as a Court Appointed Mediator.
Immediately following her clerkship, Ms. Saget joined the State of New Jersey Office of the Public Defender as an Appellate Staff Attorney. She appeared before the New Jersey Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court. Here, she became well-versed in reviewing voluminous transcripts and pinpointing arguable appellate issues. Ms. Saget authored numerous appellate briefs and was chosen to participate in a special project to conduct research and summarize the collateral consequences resulting from criminal sentences and the potential remedies.
As an Assistant Deputy Public Defender, Ms. Saget frequently made Excessive Sentence Oral Arguments before the NJ Appellate Division. She has also attended numerous hours of training in criminal defense and welcomed opportunities to perfect her skills. Prior to leaving this position, Ms. Saget was routinely called upon to review and critique the outgoing briefs of senior attorneys in the office.
Following her position as a criminal defense attorney, Ms. Saget joined a private law firm and practiced insurance defense in New York and New Jersey. As an associate, she was involved in all aspects of pre-trial litigation; including depositions, motion practice, discovery and numerous court appearances in both states.This position required that she be well-versed in statutes, case law, and Court Rules in New York and New Jersey. Ms. Saget also worked closely with partners on the post 9/11 World Trade Center Litigation, a task which required great organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ms. Saget has joined with Sorrels, Udashen, & Anton as an appellate criminal defense attorney. She primarily focuses on criminal state and federal appeals. She is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers.
